Colors will always vary with this pad...what we have in stock is a plaid tan/black with small red stripe.
Here at Mountain Horse, Inc, we get to see a lot of pictures of horses and mules during our saddle tree fittings where the saddle itself can't do the whole job. It takes the right kind of pad to get the BEST possible, most comfortable fit when a horse is sway backed or downhill built.
This particular pad does the job of assisting with comfortable fit in several ways.
1) 4" cutback at the withers keeps the pressure off the wither and allows ease of movement
2) Contoured fit assists a horse with a prominent wither, sway back and even a horse with a downhill build
("Down hill build" refers to a horse with a tall rump, where the back slopes down to wither. Even with the right saddle fit, with a regular pad, this build tends to make all saddles tip forward and dig in behind shoulders).
3) Built up "roper" front. Front 10" are 1/2" thicker than the rest of the pad. So, on a horse with a downhill build, this pad will assist in lifting the front of the saddle up to make the saddle sit levelly and make the rider's weight evenly distributed.
Durable Herculon top (color will vary), hair felt center, hospital fleece lining, oversized Acu-Letha wear leathers
