Half-Breed Cover: The difference in pricing between the Classic and the TrailMax Decker pack saddles is the half breed. The Classic has the traditional canvas w/ leather binding half breed, while the TrailMax half-breed cover is a lightweight yet extremely durable Textilene mesh stuffed with one inch of Duratex synthetic padding (same padding in the canvas half breed). TrailMax Decker Pack Trees: You also have a choice of two different designs of the decker pack tree, depending on the type of packing you want to do. NEW!! After years of design and testing, TrailMax is proud to introduce the new classic style TrailMax Decker Pack Saddle Tree. The bars are molded from virtually indestructable high-strength polymer, and will endure a lifetime of hard packing. The bars are shaped in the traditional O.P. Robinette style and, like the saddles they've sold for over 20 years, fit both horses and mules extremely well. The 3/4" stainless steel arches are attached to the bars using stainless steel buttonhead socket screws. These are screwed into threaded inserts that are permanently molded into the bars. There are six screws per iron, rather than four, for optimal stability and strength. We use only high quality stainless steel, which will not rust or pit. The molded stainless steel arches allow ropes to slide easily, making it a breeze to tighten your load. The arches are tall enough on either style to easily allow ropes and the breast collar to pass through when putting up the saddle for storage. The Classic tree is ideal for mantied loads and using panniers with Decker hooks. The Modified tree was designed for use with pannier straps, similar to a sawbuck.
